Dr. Douglas McMillan – Senior Energy & EHS Consultant – Managing Director
Dr. Douglas McMillan received an Honours BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Durham and has a PhD in Environmental Science. He is an environmental scientist, a fellow of IITD, a full member of IEMA and the Institute of Biology of Ireland and a member of the Society of Biology. Douglas has an IOSH Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety and is a graduate member of IOSH and vice-chairman of the South-East District of IOSH. He is an Energy Agreements Support Manager for the SEAI, a Passive House consultant, a member of the Association of Energy Engineers and a qualified greenhouse gas verifier. He is also a qualified auditor of ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 management systems and has extensive knowledge of the associated energy, environmental and health and safety legislation having produced registers of legislation for the Irish, Northern Irish, UK and other European jurisdictions.
Douglas has two decades of consultancy and training experience in the fields of carbon, EHS, energy and quality management systems and auditing, environmental monitoring and research, EHS legislation, energy management, EHS risk assessment and control, practical EHS training, BER and energy surveying, noise monitoring and waste management. He also provides professional inputs on environmental science and management policy issues.
Karine McMillan – Marketing Director
Karine McMillan, MSc., BSc., University of Rennes – France. Karine has a Master Degree in Business and Marketing with a specialisation in Biology and a BSc Degree in Biochemistry. Karine has extensive experience working in sales and marketing positions in a range of companies from SMEs to multinational.
Her first position was at Wrigleys as a Sales and Marketing executive where she developed, and created sales and marketing documents, brochures for new product launches, and sales kits. She then moved to Ireland and worked with French- and Irish-owned companies in various positions including Market Researcher, International Business Developer and Field Marketing Manager, assisting them to obtain new business and partners on EMEA countries. She has extensive knowledge in sales, leads generation, direct marketing, business development, marketing campaigns. Karine is a native French speaker and fluent in English.
Dr. Martina McGuinness - Laboratory & Science Consultant
Dr. Martina McGuinness has over 25 years experience working in laboratory research. After graduating from University College Dublin with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Martina spent 13 years as a Research Scientist and Laboratory Manager at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the USA. On returning to Ireland, she spent 11 years as a Research Scientist and Lecturer in Science at the Institute of Technology Carlow. In 2013, she was conferred with a M.A. in Teaching and Learning. Martina is a co-author on over 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Dr. Norman McMillan – Laboratory & Science Advisor
Dr. Norman McMillan C.Eng., F.EI., C.Phys., F.Inst.P., FRSA is a Chartered Engineer and Physicist and a Fellow of leading engineering, physics, educational and industrial societies. He has cutting edge experience in the design of solar and PV installations and low energy buildings. He is an expert in several areas of energy management of importance to industry having edited the proceedings of the Energy Forum (DIT Energy Lab, 2010) and provides strategic professional inputs on complex energy policy issues.
Norman is the inventor of the drop spectrometer and other microfluidic systems and is acknowledged as an international pioneer in nanotechnology. Based on his many years of research he offers a wide range of consultancy on analytical and instrument calibration consultancy. He has extensive experience of project management, and offered educational courses in energy saving and management for solar based systems that draw on his years of teaching photonics, optical engineering and analytical instrumentation in third-level before taking early retirement to work on establishing various commercialisations of his research.
Professor Stephen Smith – Senior Consultant
Professor Stephen Smith – Ph.D, B.A, University of Oxford. Stephen is the author of around 100 publications in refereed journals including Physical Review, Journal of Physics, Proceedings of the Royal Society, Solid State Communications, etc. As the Head of Physics Department at the University of Essex, Stephen ran a very productive Department over a crucial period consolidating the Department’s teaching activities, and developing a link with Carlow Regional Technical College, which was a significant benefit both to Essex and Carlow.
Stephen was also the Assessor in Physics for the UK Quality Assurance Agency which involved visiting several UK Physics departments and assessing the quality of their undergraduate teaching provision. Then, as Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, he was responsible for teaching administration for a large science School. Steve was an External Examiner for the undergraduate Physics Degrees at Royal Holloway, University of London and the University of Bath and was also External Examiner for Ph.D. theses at many institutions including Universities of Oxford and London. Stephen was also involved as a consultant at the Joint European Torus (JET) project working on the Thomson scattering diagnostic applying his expertise in electromagnetic wave propagation. He is currently collaborating with a research team in Ireland modelling the way in which light propagates in small-volume liquid drops to develop the work’s commercial applications.
Logan McMillan – Engineering Advisor
Logan McMillan, Bachelor OD, IT Carlow. Logan has previously worked as a project supervisor on civil engineering jobs at Moylan Consulting Engineers and IE Consulting. He has extensive experience in wastewater management, surveying, EIA process, river protection management, sustainable drainage design, flood prediction and flood management. He also has experience in risk assessment, site management, waste management and environmental monitoring analysis. Logan is a qualified civil engineer with over 10 years of working experience in drainage, flood management design and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems.
